Description

The Dell Inspiron 15 3000 3552 is a very basic full-size notebook PC with a 15.6″ display and Intel’s entry-level Celeron and Pentium processor options.

Dell’s 3552 comes with either the dual-core Intel Celeron N3050 or quad-core Pentium N3700 CPU. Both chips belong to the lower-end of the laptop processor spectrum. The N3050 is among the slowest notebook CPUs but still usable for day-to-day home and office computing duties, whereas the N3700 offers noticeably smoother experience, but still not suitable for heavy duties like high-resolution photography and video editing. We applaud Dell for providing a solid state drive storage option, besides the standard hard drive. You can order the 3552 with either a 500GB 5,400rpm HDD or a 128GB SSD. The latter enables much smoother computing experience, especially if combined with the Pentium chip. System memory size is 4GB, which is satisfactory for most usage scenarios. Graphics processing relies on the Intel HD integrated graphics, which can serve for casual games and some less demanding popular titles like League of Legends or Counter Strike if you dial down graphics detail settings to low. Storage and memory are user-upgradeable via a dedicated bottom cover held by two screws. The 40 WHr battery is user-removable and provides a battery life of up to eight hours, according to Dell.

As for the screen, the system has a standard budget-class 1366-by-768-pixel panel without touch support and no IPS wide viewing angle technology.

For typing and interaction with Windows 10 and apps, the Dell Inspiron 3552 features a full-size keyboard with numeric pad and trackpad with click buttons integrated in the touch surface. Keyboard backlight is missing.

DVD drive is optional, while Ethernet LAN port is entirely omitted. Other common laptop features are present. It has stereo speakers, a 0.9MP 720p web camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless interface, Bluetooth, HDMI video out, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, an SD media card reader, and a combo connector for headphones and microphone.

  1. This is a pretty good laptop to do basic things on, essentially you can do work on it flawlessly. The problem is watching videos/listening to music, the audio fades out for a few seconds and then back in every few minutes or so. My brother got the same computer shipped a few days apart and had an identical problem. For that reason, 3/5. You’d get well your moneysworth if that issue was fixed.

    • i agree with everything that ilya said but those giant flaws dont deserve in any way three stars… that is insane in 2016 to think that a company is putting out a unit that cant even stream video flawlessly… maybe in 2001 but not 2015 inexcuseable….. less than one star… i dont even consider it a computer.

  2. My question is where do you turn the internet on. I love the machine but my screen went black and I have lost windows and internet

    • Have you tried to press the power button, upper right corner on the keyboard deck? Maybe your laptop just entered sleep mode, if you haven’t used it for a while.

  3. Hi,

I have this laptop and upgraded it with a SSD that I had left from a broken Acer.
My question is since I can’t find the answer anywhere, does this laptop have a cooling fan or is it passive?

    • Does your model have fan grilles on the left side? If it does, it probably has active cooling. Maybe the fan doesn’t kick in often, since processors offered with this laptop have excellent thermal characteristics. You can try to put your laptop under heavy load (run some benchmark software) and see whether the fan will start blowing.

  4. I had recently purchased 3552. I removed windows 10 and installed Ubuntu 16.04. Initially I had some problems with the wifi dropping connections every now and then. I upgraded the driver and there were no subsequent problems.

I was trying to find out if I can add extra RAM and surprisingly found out that maximum 4 GB is allowed. I wonder if this is true and if so why such a limit is place.

  5. I’ve got one of the inspiron15 3000 series and as I was trying to set it up,I realised that when I was typing my email address the @ did not respond, even when I pressed the alt key together with the key that has both 2 and @ on it.Instead,it’s number 2 that keep appearing on the screen. Secondly, while I was going through microsoft privacy terms I just realised that as I was trying to see what other option was next to accept the system just suddenly switched and brought the page that required my personal information without clicking on accept. Please what can I do about this or is there something I’m not doing right? Please put me through because the system didn’t go back to that page again. Thanks

    • On English keyboards you should press Shift (not Alt) and 2 simultaneously to get @. As for your system setup problem (you switched on the brand new Inspiron 15 3000 for the first time, right?), it’s hard to tell from here what happened. But, most of settings during setup can be done after you complete the process and enter into Windows. I think accepting terms and conditions is a must, so I’m a bit confused about your situation. Nevertheless, I would proceed the setup by clicking the next step buttons wherever possible and tweak settings afterwards.

  6. Please I’ve done what you said that I should press the shift & 2 key simultaneously to get @,but instead I got something like this “. In addition,if I remove the battery and re-insert it back, would the system return itself to the first page where the configuration of the system should start so that I can be able to accept terms of use of microsoft application software? Thanks

    • Does your model have an European or some other keyboard layout instead of the US one? Do you know what layout your keyboard has? As for restarting the system, you don’t have to take out the battery. If you can’t shut down the system properly via Windows interface, you can simply press and hold for a couple of seconds the Power button on your laptop. But keep in mind that the “hard” reset should be the last way of restarting the system.

  7. Good morning & thanks for all your responses Mr.Danijel Z. While on the process of setting up the system there was a page that requested me to choose my spoken language & language for the keyboard configuration and I chose English(United Kingdom). Please,is there something else I can do to reverse these settings?

    • If you have a laptop for the US market but chosen UK keyboard layout, then @ and ” are swapped. So @ in your case will be on the key marked as ” (should be on the left of the Enter key). As for the settings, I don’t know if you can reverse them during the setup process. But you can always change them via Windows’ Control Panel once you setup the system.

  8. Would you recommend this laptop (with the SSD and Pentel processor) for a high school student who is also taking a couple of online college classes?

    • Yes, the Pentium can serve well for light tasks like Microsoft Office document editing or web browser based courses. And the SSD instead of HDD is of a major help, since it drastically improves system responsiveness. Of course, you can always get a better laptop if you have a budget for some more expensive ones. Personally, I would get a business-class notebook such as Lenovo ThinkPad because they are by default sturdier and have better keyboards. But, they’re more expensive than the Dell 3552, too.

  9. Thanks for you quick response. Though I’ve not tried the button marked ” to see if the @ will appear, but I appreciate all the same. If I encounter any problem I’ll let you know about it.

  10. Good evening Mr Danijel Z. Please, the latest problem I discover in my system is that when I click on this icon ^,I got an information that the software is not setup. Please how can I setup the system’s software

  11. Good evening Mr Danijel Z. Thanks for your instructions on my Inspiron 15 3000 model. Please I noticed that when I clicked this icon ^,I got a notice that the system software is not setup. Please what can I do to setup the software? Thanks

  12. why would windows allow there to be settings, quick tabs, and programs, even buttons for turning on tablet mode if they werent planning on letting dell execute it.I have tablet mode as one of the featured on my computer with windows 10. But the dell model I have isn’t compatable… very diapointing. Someone please help me if they know some kind of work around.

    • Yes, but chances are you’ll need driver software for it, with support for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 10 or 8 or whatever operating system you run on the Dell 3552.

  13. I recently purchased this laptop, the processor is pentium n3700.
I just wanna make sure if this really fanless laptop. Because i had mine with no heatsink/fan, there’s a air vent on the left side but there’s no air coming out. I tryna look inside the air vent and I found out that there is no fan, is it normal for pentium n3700 to be fanless? Ïs there a passive cooling inside thingy?

    • You can only select one of these CPUs before purchase. The CPU isn’t replaceable afterwards, since it’s soldered onto the motherboard.

  14. i have purchased ispiron 15-3552 with intel celeron but on the left side it has fan grilles but it has a filler a bit inside and i cant feel if the air is getting out.does mylaptop has a fan?

    • I don’t know, but it’s quite possible that there’s no cooling fan inside. Many notebooks with the N3050 CPU don’t have a fan, since the CPU itself runs very cool.

    • No, unfortunately. The processor can’t be upgraded on this laptop. As a matter of fact, modern laptops don’t have upgradeable CPUs at all.

    • After reading the minimal system requirements for Autocad 2016 version, I would say it can surely run on the Dell 3552 configurations with Intel Pentium processor. Celeron-based models maybe also work, but Pentium is minimum, according to them. In both cases, you can not expect great performance. Pentium and Celeron are among the slowest notebook CPUs, with Pentium still being noticeably faster. Laptops with dedicated video cards like the Nvidia GeForce and faster CPUs like the Intel Core series are much more suitable for Autocad. They’re of course pricier than the 3552.

As for RAM size, minimums are 2GB for 32-bit Autocad 2016 and 4GB for 64-bit version.

They also say 8GB RAM is required for for “Large Datasets, Point Clouds, and 3D Modeling”. (32-bit software supports only up to ~4GB RAM)

Required HDD space of 6GB is not an issue.

  15. Can i play pubg mobile inthis laptop smoothly .. and incase this cant be possible so what should i have to do to run this game

  16. I just bought a intel iris inspiron 15 3000 series 3552 notebook. But on my windows system it says intel celeron n4000 CPU @ 1.10ghz 1.10ghz.
Can this be or did I get the wrong one ??
