The HP 15-r263dx 15.6-inch Windows laptop delivers acceptable performance and large storage space for under $300. To sweeten the deal, Best Buy has included a couple of extra items in the package – Internet security software, laptop sleeve, mouse, and Flash drive.

The 15-r263dx is a typical budget-level laptop. It is based on the entry-class Intel Pentium N3540 Bay Trail quad-core processors. While it won’t win any speed awards, the N3540 brings satisfactory performance for day-to-day tasks of the average home and office user – web browsing, Microsoft Office document editing, or multimedia playback. The chip is actually designed with power efficiency and cool operation in mind. The Intel HD graphics integrated in the CPU itself is suited to playing basic games like Angry Birds, but it can also handle some modern 3D titles at low graphic detail and resolution settings. HP has included 4GB of RAM memory. This amount ensures you won’t be having any multitasking-related lags. As for storage, the 15-r263dx incorporates a 750GB hard drive, instead of a 500GB HDD found in most of other budget notebooks. The HDD is accompanied by a built-in DVD writer drive, a feature missing in many other similar systems.

Outwardly, the notebook doesn’t offer anything special. The display has no touchscreen nor sharp 1080p picture, while the Chiclet-style keyboard with numeric pad has no backlight. Instead, the laptop features the common but relatively low 720p 1366-by-768 display resolution. IPS wide viewing angle technology is also missing. The design with matte black plastic chassis is simplistic and a bit bland. On the positive side, casing doesn’t appear bulky, since the profile measures only 1″. The machine isn’t too heavy. It weighs in at 4.9 pounds.

The networking and connectivity feature set is also common, including all important necessities: 3 USB ports, HDMI video output, a media card reader, combo audio jack, and Wi-Fi and Ethernet LAN network interfaces.

HP 15-r263dx comes with a 3-cell 31 WHr battery. This capacity is a low one for a full-size 15.6-inch notebook, but since the CPU is very power efficient you can expect a decent battery life. The PC maker estimates it will last up to 5 hours on a single charge.
