RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S 10.1″ 2-in-1 Tablet (Win 10, Intel Atom Z8350, 2GB / 32GB, with Keyboard) – Walmart Black Friday $89

Discontinued

Description

The RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S is an extremely cheap 10.1″ Windows 10-based 2-in-1 tablet with a detachable keyboard. It’s priced at only $109. During the 2018 Black Friday sales on Walmart, it will cost only $89 and will surely be one of the best sellers in the electronics department.

The centerpiece of the 2.1-pound RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S is the 10.1″ multi-touch screen with ordinary budget-class 1,280 x 800-pixel resolution. We applaud RCA for putting this IPS wide viewing angle panel in such a cheap tablet / 2-in-1. Thanks to the detachable keyboard cover, which is included in the price, the RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S can also act as a mini 2-in-1 touch-screen laptop. The keyboard is available in four different colors: silver, blue, pink, and purple. The tablet sports a Microsoft Surface-style kickstand on the back, which allows an angled screen position.

True, Cambio’s internal components aren’t as capable as those in full-blown notebooks. The included Intel Atom Z8350 (actually x5-Z8350) processor is a very basic personal computer-use chip. It is capable of completing the basic home and office tasks, but nothing more than that. Combined with a small system memory size of 2GB, the Atom Z3850 will enable you to run web browsers, Microsoft Office apps, and media players. But, without running many of them simultaneously. Yes, 32GB of internal eMMC-based data storage memory is very small. But, RCA at least provided support for external memory cards with capacities of up to 128GB via a built-in microSD card slot.

Speaking of MS Office, it’s worth noting that the 2-in-1 comes with free touch-friendly mobile versions of select Office apps – Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile, Excel Mobile and OneNote.

Not all details about the RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S are known at the time of this writing. For sure, it features two 2-megapixel cameras – one on the front and one on the back of the tablet, and Bluetooth support. The 2-in-1 tablet has a battery life of up to 6 hours, according to the RCA. It certainly has some kind of Wi-Fi connectivity (most likely 802.11AC Wi-Fi) and at least one USB port, but we’ll know that for sure when we receive a full specs sheet. UPDATE: In a review of the tablet (in the Review section of this page), our reader Louie said the Cambio has one full-size USB 3.0 port, one micro USB port, an mini HDMI video out.

Nevertheless, for a price of only $99 or $109, the RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S is definitely one of the best Black Friday deals in the computer and electronics categories.

    • Walmart has omitted Wi-Fi connectivity info in the tablet’s specs sheet, but it certainly has it. A tablet without Wi-Fi would be useless. Since the RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S uses Intel Cherry Trail platform, it safe to assume Wi-Fi standard is the latest 802.11AC, not the older 802.11N. 802.11AC is a part of Cherry Trail.

    • The Cambio I bought a couple of years ago was great in many respects. Great color and picture quality. Mine was 128GB SSD and it was quite fast. But the battery was lucky to give 2.5 -3hours run time from a charge. Now it only charges to 75-80%…sometimes less. The letters on keyboard started dissappearing very quickly as they are painted on. And it’s on the heavy side. I paid about $140 CDN with an add on case/cover. Loved having a keyboard.

    • I’m buying a new tablet and I’m considering an RCA Galileo or Viking but RCA lies in heir tech info. The 6 hours is standby time according to RCA when I complained about only 2.5 hours of run time from a charge. And I just cant decide between Android and Windows. I like Windows better but Android has way more apps.

    • The tablet features a full PC Windows version with right click support. You can use a Bluetooth or USB mouse (info on number and type of USB port(s) on the tablet coming soon).

  1. I am really interested in buying this tablet.
Do you think 32gb / 2gb ram might be cutting it short after loading Win 10?
I happen to come across a review involving a RCA tablet with nearly the same specs ran kinda sluggish after it updated and installed Win 10. He claimed it took up most of the resources and how it took nearly 2 hours to download and update win10. What’s your thought on this.

    • I don’t own a RCA tablet, but I had a very similar Acer tablet wtih Intel Atom / 2GB / 32GB. Updating from Win 8.1 to 10 really took a couple of hours, but once Windows 10 was installed, the tablet was running normally. Windows 10 wasn’t taking up too much resources, but generally Atom / 2GB / 32GB combination ca be used only for light tasks and running only a couple of programs or browser tabs simultaneously. BTW, the RCA tablet already has Windows 10 pre-installed.

  2. Danijel Z.
    I really appreciate your feedback.
I have a few more questions that’s probably a matter of personal preference but maybe you see something I’m missing. So here it is, Android or Windows? (I like both). But here’s what I want a the tablet for.
    1. Do a little writing,
    2. Keep organized,
    3. Shop and manage my personal accounts etc.
Also, browse the internet to read articles and sometimes a little YouTube too.
A plus with Android is … I can sync between my devices … phone, tablet, and TV stream boxes, all of which run on Android platforms. But keep in mind that in the near future I am planning on buying a windows desktop.
It sounds like I’m answering my own question but I’m always open to others suggestions.
Another importance for me is, speed, storage, ram, clarity ( preferably IPS) decent screen size, and last but not least, PRICE .. LOL
    Thanks in advance!!
    Louie Jr.

    • If all the apps for the tasks you mentioned are available on Android, then an Android tablet may be a batter choice for you than a Windows tablet like this RCA Cambio W101SA23T1S (because of simplicity, better touch-input optimization, lower computing load, and smaller storage footprint of Android). Windows would be maybe better for writing you mentioned, as well as other tasks which are easier to complete with a mouse and keyboard. Also, Windows is better if you multi-task a lot. However, if your writing tasks are simple text processing (like without a lot copy / paste text operations between different apps, no advanced text formatting, etc), Android accompanied by a keyboard can be a good solution too.

Sorry, we don’t cover Android tablets on this site. But, as you said, having IPS is an important feature to have on a tablet, as well as large memory (at least 2GB), and large storage space (32GB isn’t small on an Android tablet). And preferably a fast processor, like newer octa-core CPUs. Newer Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets have these features.

  3. Hi Danijel Z,
Based on our brief conversations regarding the RCA windows tablet, I went ahead and placed the order.
I should receive it Wednesday the 15th. Now I’m like a kid waiting for his new toy to arrive.
Anyway, once I receive it … if you have any questions regarding the tablet, please feel free and let me know. Thanks Again,
    Louie Jr.

    • Thanks, Louie. It would be great to have your impressions about the device (as some kind of a user review) on this section of the page.

  4. Hi Danijel Z,
    Just a heads up …
Today I picked up the tablet. So far it’s pretty cool. Impressive how easy it was to set it up. I was up and going within 15 mins. Windows 10 Home edition was pre-installed and it walked me right through the setup, including my Wi-Fi, Google acct, email and more. I connected my bluetooth mouse via USB which made my right click a breeze. So far the speed & screen clarity is super. Can’t believe it only cost $108. Tomorrow I will give you the full specs. Can’t remember how much storage is available … but there’s plenty. Let U know tomorrow. Thanks again.

  5. So far I give this awesome little Notebook/Tablet 4 1/2 stars. It comes with Windows 10 Home Edition pre-installed. 1 USB 3.0, 1 Micro USB and a mini hdmi port too. It’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi certified.
    System Type X86-Based PC.
    Windows System 32.
I have to admit I was skeptical at first about this purchase because I wasn’t sure how it would handle Win 10. Well let me be the first to tell … this thing is smooth. I was able to run several apps/programs at the same time, including YouTube without a glitch. I also downloaded and installed Bitdefender and Chrome without any issues on Wi-Fi. Before logging off I checked how much storage was available. A whopping 19.46GB. Tomorrow I will pick up an SD card as a plus.
RCA has done a good job with tablet. I recommend picking up a cheap Bluetooth mouse to make things easy. It has an excellent crisp IPS touch screen along with a nice touch pad. However, I personally prefer the use of a mouse.
If you don’t want to deal with Black Friday Chaos, Walmart has it for $108 plus tx. Or, Jet.com for $109.
    Good luck.

  6. can you use adobe flash and chrome on this tablet? I’m about to try to purchase one before black friday deal ends. But I need those elements for me to use it at work.

    • The laptop uses standard Windows 10 Home OS for PCs. It supports Chrome web browser and Adobe Flash. But in some cases Flash might run sluggish because the Atom processor in this tablet is an entry-level part. Also RAM size of 2GB is small for running multiple browser tabs and Flash instances simultaneously.

    • You can use a capacitive stylus, you can find tens or hundreds of these simple pens on Amazon or elsewhere. But, the tablet doesn’t support active digitizer pens (such as those on Microsoft Surface tablets / laptops with pen pressure sensitivity and other advanced features).

    • Yes, it has a USB port for connecting a USB external drive, but… Do you mean a DVD drive or external hard drive? Some DVD drives and hard drives can require greater power than delivered though USB of this low-power tablet. Generally, this is not an issue with external solid state and Flash USB drives.

    • I received my Cambio W101SA23T1 S for Christmas how do I register my warranty? How long do I charge my tablet/portable 2 en 1 the first time?

    • i use an external 500GB HDD and it works great. the only problem is that it will drain the battery alot sooner. but when i am using the HDD I leave it plugged into the ac adapter.

  7. Anyone find a case for this tablet? I have only seen them in the States and I am in Canada. I just wondered if I could use any other one

  8. I ordered this tablet from Wal-Mart a couple of months ago and haven’t used it very much. I had to get a new wi-fi box because my other one was getting old and kept going out and I can’t get my tablet to connect to my home wi-fi. I have tried everything, even factory reset and that isn’t working properly because it has messed up everything. I can’t get into settings or Microsoft Edge. I need to be able to reset it completely without it pulling the same thing back up.. I am seriously considering contacting RCA and Wal-Mart and sending it back and go with something else.

  9. I love my Cambio! The only reason it’s getting 4 stars from me is because the battery life is terrible. This little 2 in 1 packs a big punch! Initially, I had some WIFI connectivity issues but I reset my modem and it worked like a charm afterward. I played Sims 3 for hours on this with no lag. I had multiple applications running, no lag. Everything comes up in no time. I’m so happy with this purchase! I was skeptical because of reviews I’ve seen. I feel like this is a perfect little device if you’re just wanting something you can take along. It does everything thing your desktop can do without the bulk! But remember, this is not a desktop replacement. Maybe a companion.

    • Shari, can you do me a favor? can you make a copy of your touchscreen driver with a program called “double driver” and share it?

  10. Did anyone have a problem getting the tablet to come on? The blue light is on when it is on the charger, but nothing lights when I try to turn it on. Am I doing something wrong? I pushed the on/off button on the side for 5+ seconds like the instruction sheet said. HELP! HELP! HELP! I must have a defective notebook/tablet.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  11. How do I go in and unlock my Cambio..I let my sweet little grandson use it and now I can’t unlock it….HELP!!!!

    • Hi, can you log into Windows using the on-screen keyboard? If you can, type “reset” in Windows Search (lower-left corner), click on “Reset this PC” then click on “Get started button” and there’s an option to reset it.

If you can’t log-in, then you will probably have to use a USB keyboard (I don’t know any other way). Connect it to the tablet and keep pressing F9 key on startup to enter Recovery mode. There’s an option to reset the tablet in Recovery mode, under Troubleshooting option.

Recovery can be usually entered on a Windows tablet by pressing and holding Power + Volume Up buttons, but the W101SA23T1S doesn’t have volume buttons as far as I know.

    • Yes reset it recovery the whole thing but back up if anything you may have on a flash drive good luck I hope that resolves that issue

  12. My keyboard stop working and i cant us it so i can only use the one on the tablet. Not sure what to do. Can anyone help me please.

  13. Why does it continue to randomly shut off? Its fully charged, no issues with low space, not getting to hot.

    • Check your settings it might be shutting off because two things not plugged in or maybe after a while it goes on sleep mode

    • There are multiple ways to do that, but here’s what I do:
In Windows Search box (lower-left corner of the screen) type “reset”. A “Reset this PC” item will show up. Click on it and then click “Get started” button. Select “Remove everything” option there. This will erase your friend’s files and programs and you’ll get a basic Windows installation on which you can put your programs and files. To transfer files from another laptop I use a USB Flash drive.

    • Try this if you cannot delete her stuff, Do a reset meaning system recovery but keep in mind it will take maybe 3 hours to complete

  14. Love my Cambio but the battery really does suck. 3 hours if I’m lucky…more like 2 hours though. RCA responded by telling me the 6 hour stated in material is “standby” power. Really? So we an run it 6 hours if we don’t touch it?

  15. I bought the win 10 version and could not ask for more given that I paid $105.00 CDN. for it. It has trouble multi-tasking. I expect his is more attributable to the 2gig of ram The machine really needs a minimum of 4gigs. A better processor would not hurt. I use it all the time and for streaming. Greta deal. It’s worth the price of win 10 alone. I heartily recommend this tablet/computer Well worth the money.

    • Honestly, no. Because of only 2GB RAM and also the processor is among the slowest and internal 32GB storage is really small. True, the RCA Cambio can run student-type programs, since they are usually quite light. But you can expect noticeable lags if you run multiple browser tabs / programs at the same time.

For that type of work without slowdowns, I would suggest a laptop / 2-in-1 PC with at least 4GB of RAM (preferably 8GB) and at least Intel Core i3 processor. Also, a solid state drive instead of a hard drive would make things much smoother. There’s are some great deals on affordable laptops like that, you can take a look at them here: https://laptoping.com/black-friday-cyber-monday-and-other-windows-laptop-and-tablet-deals.html

      Regards!

  16. I bought this off walmart for around 224 Canadian Dollars and have been using it for around 3 months and I must say that this is exactly as I had expected it to be although it could have been better

There are great points mentioned already (above) but I would like to add these important points

    1. Keyboard – Good but also problematic. It detaches very easily if you move it higher. One might say its flexibility helps one to keep the tablet and keyboard flat on the ground – its impressive as I don’t think the Surface can do this too.
The keys are a bit small and the touchpad can get in the way though there is a shortcut key to turn it off.
F2 and other function keys require one to press the FN key to trigger which can be annoying especially if one often uses shortcut keys.

    2. USB – great 3.0 USB port which allows all flash disks to work BUT external HDDs can be a problem. I tried some HDDs and it started beeping (lack of power for the HDD) however some others (thinner ones like WD) worked correctly. Therefore that was the biggest negative.
It could be avoided if you buy a USB hub with external power though I’ve yet to try it myself.

    3. Kickstand – It doesn’t go all the way back and only goes to up to 45 degrees which can be annoying if placed it on the ground.
I got over it by closing the kickstand and keeping something below the back of the tablet to raise it a bit of the ground.

    4. Performance – It has given me zero issues and due to its flash memory, the computer switches on and works quite fast.
However its not as fast as another laptop/computer would be but for that price, its really great.

    5. Battery – I’ve heard many people complain about this but I really loved its battery life (though I felt I might have needed a power bank previously – which I didn’t)
I used it for around 4 hours once (OneNote, Word etc. w/o Internet usage) and it was like 75% remaining and Windows estimate that it could go on for a total of 10-11 hours (similar to by friend’s ASUS Ultrabook)
I’m not sure how this is possible but I really loved its battery life though with WIFI on, it could definitely be lower (which is expected of every mobile device)

Hope that helps anyone looking to buy this for his student life

  17. I am looking at purchasing one of these. Can anyone tell me if i would be able to run an external DVDRW or bluray player off this? I mostly just want to use it for Netflix and movie ripping/watching. And basic office.

    • Yes it comes with one usb port and hdmi port and netflix can be installed through micrsoft app store.

    • Yes i run an external cd/dvd burner no problems. I did however switch from edge to chrome. It runs smoother. And if u need extra speed you can always get an external memory drive.

  18. I like these things, there’s some quirks but overall, for the price it’s a fun and useful machine.

    A few answers/notes:
USB power supply to devices can be problematic. Always plug in the charger… mine will suddenly shut down if I don’t when I plug in a DVD drive even though the drive has it’s own power supply. You can use a “Y” cable to an external usb device that has an extra connector for power instead of a powered usb hub (which I haven’t tried).
    ….
The micro usb port can be used charge the tablet.
    ……
If you ever decide to completely wipe the device and install windows from a flash drive or whatever… BACK UP THE DRIVERS. Maybe that won’t even help? The first one of these I had was given to me after someone had wiped it and attempted to run linux, and after reinstalling windows I found it impossible to find all the correct drivers to get everything working correctly, especially the touch screen and touch pad… and the micro usb didn’t work except for charging.
    …..
I’ve had an issue with a new one not recognizing a 128gb SD card, even though RCA claims that’s supported. A 32gb SD card is working fine. Not sure what the issue is there.

  19. Hey I have had this 2 in 1 cambio w101sa23t1 for 6 months and three days ago it stopped working my windows icon will not work on screen and the keyboard I can only use my language to change please help

    • I did a factory reset and now I can’t do anything I can’t get my settings I can’t do nothing

  20. My 2 in 1 tablet switched after it was indicating battery low and then I out it to charge since then my tablet never switched on. Please can you’ll help me in making it work again.

    • friend Im looking the same the touch screen driver plz shari may you do the favor? back up driver with “double driver”

    • Yes, the Atom x5 processor inside the Cambio can stream movies without problems if they are up to Full HD 1920×1080-pixel resolution. The screen of the Cambio itself is HD 1280×800 and playing HD movies is even easier on the processor.

  21. The RCA Cambio I bought a couple of years ago was great in many respects. Very few companies other than RCA sells 2 in 1 tablets at good price. Wanted to give 4 stars but the battery really sucked. Next one I buy will be min 8000MAh

  22. I bought this tablet and I used it for maybe a month then the battery went out and it never would turn on again. A few months later it turned on out of the blue. I used it for a few weeks then the battery ran out and has never turned back on. You can charge it for months and it still won’t turn on. Ridiculous. I have a brand new tablet that I can not use.

    • I’ve had it for a few years now and I’ve had absolutely no problems with the battery dying. It still lasts 5 hours. Maybe you got it from a bad reseller?

    • Hook it to a new power supply. I.e. change out the cable and USB box, I had the same problem. Changed it out, hooked directly into the wall and it came on.
