The Toshiba Satellite C55-B5299 is one of the cheapest Black Friday laptop offers. It will be on sale at Office Depot for only $159.99.
The C55-B5299 is outfitted with the Intel Celeron N2830 “Bay Trail” dual-core processor we reviewed recently here. Overall, it’s an acceptable CPU for the basic tasks like text and spreadsheet document editing, surfing the web, music and video playback, and even some gaming on low settings. Unfortunately, only 2GB of RAM is provided in this model, so it has weaker multitasking muscle than the laptops with standardly-sized 4GB RAM. In addition, RAM isn’t user-upgradeable, according to the official specs. The hard drive is 500GB large, which is an average capacity on today’s market. Another downside is absence of a built-in optical drive, so you won’t be able to read and write DVDs and CDs. If you don’t purchase a separately sold external drive that is.
As same as the vast majority of available 15.6-inch laptops, Toshiba’s C55-B5299 has 1366-by-768 screen resolution, a full-size keyboard with a dedicate numeric pad on the right side and a trackpad below, stereo speakers, a front camera for vide chats, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI vide jack, Wi-Fi and Ethernet LAN network connections, and a multiformat card reader.
There’s no official estimation on the battery life, but systems with similar specs usually last around 5 hours on a single charge, with light operation involved.
The laptop is covered with matte black plastics. It weighs 4.8 pounds and is 1″ thick, so it is a fairly portable 15.6-incher.
All in all, the C55-B5299 definitely provides enough value for your Black Friday dollar. But it isn’t necessarily the best deal for the money, since Walmart’s HP 15-f004wm at the same price has 4GB RAM, a DVD burner, and similar other specs.

Overall, the above description is accurate-this is your average standard use laptop. However, I would like to make one correction. The item is user upgradeable if you need to increase your RAM. I ordered a Timetec Hynix IC 8GB DDR3L/DDR3 1600 MHz PC3L-12800 Non-ECC Unbuffered etc, etc from Amazon and after watching a RAM upgrade video on YouTube for this model, I am now enjoying increased speed and performance! Wish I had done this years ago (I bought this when it first came out in 2014, so that shows how hardy it is! So yes, if you have a decent anti-statci environment, a screw driver, and a tablet/phone to watch the video for guidance, you can upgrade this model’s RAM to its max (8 GB) with no difficulty at all!
