| Manufacturer |
Microsoft is very well known for its software, including Windows operating system and Microsoft 365 and Office productivity suites. But, they also make the popular Surface laptops and convertibles. |
|---|---|
| Series |
Microsoft Surface is a popular lineup of mobile PC devices, such as the Surface Pro 2-in-1 convertibles and Surface Laptops. The Microsoft Surface Laptop series blends elegant design with powerful performance. The Surface laptops feature vibrant PixelSense touchscreens, long battery life, and AI-enhanced capabilities that cater to both creative professionals, office workers, and everyday users. |
| Laptop Type |
Laptop PCs with Windows operating system are the most common notebook computers, followed by MacBooks and Chromebooks. The traditional clamshell laptop design, as opposed to 2-in-1 convertibles. Ultraportable laptops are lightweight, compact devices designed for maximum mobility. They feature slim designs, long battery life, and efficient performance to support professionals, students, and travelers on the go. |
| Performance |
Laptops with standard performance are those with the widely used mid-range and upper-mid-range processors. They are an excellent choice for daily home and office computing, as well as slightly more demanding tasks like light gaming and light content creation. For hardcore gaming and professional content creation, high-performance laptops are the better fit. |
| Typical Use |
The majority of laptops on the market, including the cheapest ones with basic specs, are suitable for the common everyday tasks like web browsing, emails, or document editing. Having a powerful and power-hungry laptop just to complete these tasks isn’t necessary. Office and productivity laptop tasks typically involve word and spreadsheet processing, presentations, emailing, web research, and multitasking between business applications. Laptops used for studying and online education offer reliable entry-level and mid-range performance, a good battery life, and support for multitasking and communication in a digital learning environment. Web browsing and social media tasks don’t require high-end specs. They can be completed easily on entry-level and mid-range laptops with good network connectivity. For professional content creation such as high-resolution photo and video editing or music production, a laptop with high performance is recommended. However, for occasional light content creation tasks like 1080p video and basic photo editing, mid-range performance is sufficient, too. In both cases, laptops used for visual content creation should have at least decent screens. In most cases, coding tasks like web development or app creation aren’t overly hardware demanding. But still, it is beneficial if your laptop provides at least standard performance and 16GB of RAM or higher for seamless multi-tasking and running OS emulations. |
| Screen Size |
This is one of the small display sizes used for ultraportable laptops. There are however laptops with even smaller screens like 11.6″. |
| Screen Resolution |
The 1920×1280-pixel displays offer similar picture sharpness and space on the screen to the widely used Full HD displays, except the former are taller with their 3:2 aspect ratio. |
| Screen Features |
Touchscreens in modern mobile computers support multi-touch finger input. On select models, they also support active digitizer pens. Touch-enabled laptops come in the standard laptop form with added touchscreen functionality or with 2-in-1 convertible laptop / tablet designs. Displays based on IPS technology provide much wider viewing angles than the budget-class TN screens. The 3:2 aspect ratio makes the screen taller than the common widescreen 16:10 and 16:9 ratios. 3:2 is more suitable for document editing and productivity than the video-centric widescreen ratios. |
| Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 is one of the models in the Qualcomm’s lineup for laptop PCs. The Qualcomm chips are known for their power-efficiency, but some programs written for the traditional Intel and AMD CPUs may not work on the Qualcomm chips or may have degraded performance. The Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 is excellent for the daily home and office tasks. But, there are faster processors in the family, such as the more widely used X Plus X1P-64-100 and the top-tier Elite series Snapdragon X. The Snapdragon CPUs feature the Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU) that speeds up AI tasks significantly. |
| Graphics |
Qualcomm processors that include the Adreno graphics processor units are all about power efficiency, rather than high graphics rendering performance. Adreno is, however, suitable for light graphics tasks, such as casual light gaming or high-definition multimedia playback. |
| RAM Size |
16GB and greater RAM sizes are recommended for heavy multitasking, gaming, and specialized programs that require a lot of RAM. |
| Data Storage |
256GB is a decent capacity. If you tend to download and store a lot of large files like movies and install many programs, 512GB or more is a better choice. |
